European Brain Research Institute - Rita Levi-Montalcini

About the Institution

Founded in 2002 by Nobel Laureate Rita Levi-Montalcini, the European Brain Research Institute is a non-profit research center dedicated to understanding higher brain functions, and to the study of the brain at various levels, from molecules, synapses, nerve and glial cells, neuronal circuits to behavior. With the support of basic research, we are able to identify the molecular and cellular mechanisms that are useful for the development of new therapeutic strategies for neurological and neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease and senile dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic pain, and neurodevelopmental disorders in children.  We are also conducting studies on autism spectrum disorders, as well as rare genetic diseases.

The research at EBRI is multi-disciplinary, using state-of-the-art experimental and computational techniques. The Institute has developed an innovative pipeline of novel molecules of therapeutic interest in Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of neurodegeneration (painless NGF, antibody scFvA13, antibody mAb12A12) and new diagnostic biomarkers.

EBRI offers an international research environment that fosters collaborations, exchange of ideas and advanced training to young researchers. EBRI is part of a network of collaborations with national and international research centers and hospitals.
