IRCCS SYNLAB SDN

About the Institution

IRCCS SYNLAB SDN is a large enterprise formally recognized by the Italian Ministry of Health as a research institute in the field of diagnostics. Thanks to its extensive technological infrastructure and the expertise and high quality of its human resources, the institute performs approximately 100,000 in vivo imaging examinations per year, primarily CT, MRI, and PET, as well as around one million in vitro tests, mainly covering laboratory and molecular diagnostics.

In addition, the presence of a BBMRI-certified Biobank enables the systematic collection and storage of biological samples, which can be integrated with imaging data to support advanced translational research.

To address the complexity and heterogeneity of the large volume of diagnostic data generated, the Institute has established two interdisciplinary laboratories dedicated to data processing and analysis to improve diagnostic efficiency and accuracy:

Image Processing and AI Laboratory: This laboratory integrates advanced technological expertise to develop image processing and computer vision methods. Its activities focus on extracting quantitative descriptors from diagnostic images (e.g., radiomics and connectomics), enhancing image visualization, and generating high-fidelity 3D models.

Bioinformatics  Laboratory: This multidisciplinary unit develops bioinformatic, statistical, and data science approaches, with a focus on radiogenomic integration, epigenetics, and network medicine, supporting precision medicine and the personalization of diagnostic pathways.
